Richard P. Swenson

Professor and Chairman

Department of Biochemistry
The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH

Professor Swenson obtained his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Minnesota in 1979. His thesis research (under the direction of James B. Howard) involved the discovery and characterization of the alkylamine-reactive glutamate site in the human blood plasma protease inhibitor alpha-2-macroglobulin. This site is part of a functionally essential and novel thioester linkage within this protein.

Postdoctoral studies were conducted from 1979 to 1983 in the Department of Biological Chemistry at the University of Michigan with Professors Charles H. Williams, Jr. and Vincent Massey. Research involved various structure-function studies on the flavoprotein D-amino acid oxidase.
