Example of Results: DNA Footprint Analysis
 

Example of Promoter characterization results done at the Plant-Microbe Genomics Facility with an Applied BIosystems 3730 DNA Analyzer that measures DNA fragemtent size by automated capillary electrophoresis. The example below demonstrates how the promoter binding site can be identified for a gene with this technology.

For Example, the upper electropherogram below shows the protein protected region (blue peaks; black brackets) as compared to the control dna (red peaks). The protected region can be aligned with the dna sequence (lower electropherogram) to identify which part of the gene's promoter binds the regulatory protein.
