Affymetrix 428 Scanner

The scanner is a confocal laser microscope with a flying head, i.e. the objective lens scans over the slide. After hybridization with the fluorescently labeled sample the slide is inserted into the scanner, and the resulting fluorescence is measured after excitation at two different wavelengths: 532 and 635nm. Subsequently the files can be analyzed with additional software to compare the signal from the two different dyes and therefore differences between the samples.
