Our laboratory has been involved in the examination of the molecular evolution of chlorophycean algae for a number of years.  We have recently completed a molecular examination of the filamentous orders Chaetophorales and Oedogoniales, as well as a separate examination of the order Tetrasporales. We have gathered molecular information using DNA sequence data from the small subunit ribosomal (SSU) RNA gene in these studies.  For results and  information on published abstracts and articles relative to these studies please visit the publications section of  Greg  Booton's HomePage. We are now examining the evolution of a number of autosporic green algae using the SSU gene, as well as examining the rbcL gene in taxa that we have previously studied the SSU gene.
