Welcome to the Ohio State University Bat Lab!

The main areas of interest in our lab are cognitive science, neuroethology, animal communication, and sensory ecology.  We study bat echolocation (range discrimination and detection) using a variety of techniques including training big brown bats (Eptesicus fuscus) in psychophysical tasks.  Other research interests in our lab include the potential use of echolocation for communication and social interactions in bats.  We are also working on echolocation call development and assessing variability in echolocation calls due to recording method.  We are currently developing neural network models to help evaluate our behavioral training data and determine echolocation call discrimination ability.
