• DR. ZUCAI SUO WINS DEAN'S EXCELLENCE IN UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH MENTORING AWARD
  Dr. Zucai Suo was presented with an Excellence in Undergraduate Research Mentoring Award by Dean Joan Herbers at the College of Biological Sciences Annual Meeting in May, 2007. Dr. Suo is very deserving of this recognition of his many efforts in providing excellent and exciting educational experiences for our undergraduate biochemistry majors outside the classroom. He has personally mentored 14 undergraduate students on their independent research projects since joining the faculty in 2001. Many of these students have coauthored papers in major biochemical journals based on their efforts. Dr. Suo also promotes undergraduate research activities through the instruction of laboratory courses and his service as the advisor to the Undergraduate Biochemistry Club. Congratulations, Dr. Suo!

• NOBEL LAUREATE SPEAKS TO OUR UNDERGRADUATE BIOCHEMISTRY CLUB
  Dr. Philip Sharp of the Massachusetts Institute of Technoloy and the 1993 Nobel Prize winner in Medicine/Physiology, was recently invited to discuss his research and his experiences as a scientist with many of our undergraduate biochemistry majors. The event, which was well attended, took place on April 13, 2007 in the Kuhn Honors and Scholars House on The Ohio State University campus. Dr. Sharp’s research has important implications for the evolution of organisms and the causes of some hereditary diseases and cancers. The event was organized by members of the Undergraduate Biochemistry Club . Olivia Twu serves as The Club's President.

• UNDERGRADUATE AWARDS AND HONORS FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 2006/07:

  Congratulations to the following undergraduate biochemistry students who received various awards and honors during the academic year.  These individuals were honored along with their peers in other programs at the annual College of Biological Sciences Academic Honors Reception held in May, 2007.  A group picture of those Biochemistry undergraduate and graduate student honorees in attendance along with Associate Dean Caroline Breitenberger, Department Chair Dr. Richard P. Swenson, and Assistant Professors Jennifer Ottesen and Tom Magliery was taken to commemorate the festive event.
