Biochemistry H200 - Early Experience in Research in Biochemistry: Seminar
Winter 
Two quarter introduction to biochemical research through seminars and laboratory tours by faculty in the Department of Biochemistry. The second quarter will link with Biochem H201 and will involve a seminar and student presentations.
Prereq: None

(This course is graded S/U.)

Biochemistry H201 - Early Experience in Research in Biochemistry: Laboratory
Spring 
A laboratory supplement to Biochem H200 to introduce undergraduate to biochemical research. Biochem H201 involves the conduct of a short research experience in the laboratory of a faculty member in the Department of Biochemistry and a short student presentation summarizing the project.
Prereq: Biology 113 or Chem 121 and Biochem H200.

Biochemistry 211 - Elements of Biochemistry (I)
Autumn 
A survey of biochemistry in a two-quarter sequence stressing the qualitative rather than the quantitative approach. 
Prereq: Chem 102 or 122. 

(Credit does not count toward a major in biochem. This course is available for EM credit.)

Biochemistry 511 - Introduction to Biological Chemistry 
Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Spring
An introductory course in biochemistry dealing with the molecular basis of structure and metabolism of plants, animals, and microorganisms.
Prereq: Chem 123 and 252, and 2 qtrs of biological sciences.
The organic chemistry requirement may also be satisfied by Chem 231 with a C grade or better.

Biochemistry 521 - Introduction to Biological Chemistry: Laboratory
Winter and Spring ONLY (Biochemistry majors - please plan accordingly)
Assay techniques for chemical constituents and metabolic reactions of living cells.
  Prereq: Prereq: for 521: 511 or 613 or equivalent. For H521: 511 or 613 or equivalent, and Chem 221.

Biochemistry 702 - Molecular Genetics: Regulation of Gene Expression
Winter
The Genetic Code, Transcription, RNA structure, RNA processing and translation, and the regulation of gene expression, DNA-Protein and protein-protein interactions in prokaryotes and eukaryotes are covered. This course emphasizes concepts and experimental techniques that are used to analyze regulatory mechanisms that control gene expression.
Prereq: Mol Gen 701 or permission of instructor.

Prereq: 4th yr standing with a grade of A in at least half of the courses in biochem and an average of B in the remainder; permission of instructor under whose supervision the work is to be completed and the Arts and Sciences Honors Committee. At least 2 qtrs are required of candidates for the degrees BA or BS with distinction in biochem.

Failure to receive a mark of S in this course is a disqualification for special honors.
