The second major change you will find is in the format for the quiz. The lecture quizzes will have a combination of what you are used to in terms of mix and match, but you will also have some short answer questions and vocabulary terms to define. I will post a sample quiz on my Class Notes web page of my website to give you an idea of what to expect.
Lecture quizzes will cover the material presented in lecture, including material from video clips that will be shown in class. Regular attendance of lecture will help you in preparing for your weekly quiz.
We will have lecture participation points as part of your grade. During each lecture I will have an in-class exercise worth 2.5 points. You will be graded for 50 of those points, but there will be an opportunity for additional points if you attend more than 20 of the lectures for the quarter. I will offer a bonus of 10 extra points if you have perfect lecture attendance for the quarter.
Be sure to read the section "How PB 102 differs as compared to PB 101" in your lecture manual. You will find that this course is very different from what you have been used to in PB 101.
Textbooks. The required textbook is: Berg, Linda R. 1996. Introductory Botany: Plants, People, and the Environment. This is a great textbook and you will definitely benefit by reading the assigned pages that go along with each lecture. Use the textbook as a supplement to lecture and the lecture manual.
We also have lecture and lab manuals for this course -- available from the OSU bookstore.
Supplemental material will be provided as linked pages through my Class Notes web page. These links will be selected to illustrate the main points of lecture or just because they have some really cool stuff there that touches on what we're focusing on for the week. I will also provide the outlines for each lecture review at this site.
