We are fortunate to have so many different biomes right here at home. Here are some websites with good photos and summary information about the different biomes: Ecosystems of Our World (this site has sound recordings playing in the background that are typical of each biome); and for a more focused look at North America try Islands of Wildness (click on the picture of Earth at the bottom of each page to move forward through this site).
