| Join the Alumni Society | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Graduates in any of the majors or graduate programs in the College of Biological Sciences--Biochemistry; Biology; Entomology; Evolution, Ecology and Organismal Biology; Microbiology; Molecular Genetics; Plant Biology (formerly Botany) and Zoology--are eligible for membership, as are those in interdisciplinary programs who trained with College faculty.
New graduates receive a complimentary membership in their first year as alumni. We also issue complimentary memberships to current students who have completed 15 credit hours in the College. After expiration of the complimentary first year, alumni are asked to make an annual donation to the Biological Sciences Alumni Scholarship Fund to continue membership. |

| Benefits of Membership | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| By joining the Biological Sciences Alumni Society, you will have a voice in College affairs and have voting privileges to elect the Board of Governors. You will receive communications about alumni activities in addition to the annual issue of Ohio State Synergy, the College publication for alumni and friends of the College.
Also, you will have great networking opportunities. You will be invited to social and sporting events, lectures and tours and educational retreats. Plus, you will have the option to influence the kinds of events and opportunities the Society will offer as we grow into the future. Best of all, you have an opportunity to "pay forward" by giving that most valuable asset--your time--to guide and advise students through recruiting, mentoring, and/or placement activities. Below are current services and activities your alumni society regularly provides Biological Sciences students and alumni. |

| June Graduation Luncheon | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
A luncheon for graduates, parents, family, and faculty is held after graduation practice each June. This is an opportunity for alumni to welcome students as the newest members to our society and congratulate them on their accomplishments.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Student Recruitment | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Each quarter, society members participate in calling top high school seniors who have applied to Ohio State and have indicated an interest in Biological Sciences. Alumni and students share experiences and answer questions about the university and our college. The next "calling night" is scheduled for February 9, 2004 at 5:30 p.m. in Enarson Hall. See Calendar of Events for details. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Student Mentoring (more) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Society members can volunteer to help students who are attending Ohio State by answering questions about choosing an area of study, seeking undergraduate research opportunities, deciding a career path, and many others. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Social Activities | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Each year, the society plans a number of social events for alumni and friends. In 2002, we initiated "February Thaw," which includes dinner and entertainment in the beautiful--and warm--Biological Sciences Greenhouses. In 2003, the alumni society hosted its first annual golf outing which, in only its second year, raised enough funds to endow the alumni scholarship. This scholarship directly supports biological sciences students. Each fall the society hosts an alumni tailgate party and football game, and an alumni retreat to Stone Laboratory on Lake Erie. See Calendar of Events for details and photos. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Educational/Networking | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| We provide alumni the opportunity to learn about what our college is doing and the educational focus of the students in the college. This year, alumni were invited to attend the Undergraduate Research Colloquium in April, and a weekend at Stone Laboratory on Lake Erie in early October. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
