Our dry laboratory is located in Area 400. Here researchers analyze water quality samples from a variety of aquatic ecosystems and process samples including zooplankton, macroinvertebrates, larval and adult fish, and freshwater mussels. Available in this lab are: 6 dissecting scopes; 6 microscopes complete with digitizing tablets (for measuring small organisms); an Optimus digitizing microscope and computer (for otolith analysis); 3 drying ovens; a centrifuge; 3 bomb calorimeters; many electronic balances; a fluorometer; a scale reader; and other lab supplies.

Also located in this area is the AEL's wet laboratory. This well equipped lab contains 4 walk-in environmental growth chambers, 3 aquarium rooms, dechlorinated water supply, 3 experimental pools, 6 living streams, and a riffle-pool recirculating stream tank. The wet lab is also supplied with an air supply, floor drains, and ground-fault circuits for safety. This area also contains lockers and cabinets for storage of field equipment.

The AEL has other storage space in the Research Center, including field equipment storage room with a wader drying rack, and a freezer room with both a walk-in freezer and a walk-in refrigerator.

Below are some of the many facilities available to researchers at the Aquatic Ecology Laboratory.
