What's new:

• New facilities:
  • Dr. Tom Watters, in conjunction with the Columbus Zoo, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, the National Fish and Wildlife Federation and others, recently renovated an old social club into the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium Freshwater Mussel Facility. This facility provides space for mollusc related research, conservation, and education programs.
  • Aronoff Laboratory, the new home for EEOB, is finished. Faculty, staff, and students are currently moving from our old building (Jennings Hall, aka B&Z) to this new facility.
  • As part of the relocation, Dr. Dave Culver and his lab are moving into the Museum of Biological Diversity, across the street from the AEL. We welcome our colleagues and look forward to more interactions with these researchers.
    
• New faces:
  • Jennell Bigrigg is a new master's student at the Aquatic Ecology Lab. She received her BS from Bowling Green State University.
  • Paris Collingsworth will join the AEL in July as a Ph.D. Student. He received his MS degree from Southern Illinois-Carbondale University.
  • Keith Flaute is a new research aid working on the percid predation project. He recently graduated from OSU.
  • Samantha Fedor, also form OSU, has come to the AEL to work on her Master's degree.
  • Andrew Gascho-Landis, from Northern Arizona University, has accepted a research technician position at the AEL. He will be working on the Acton Lake predation project.
  • Kody Kuehnl, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (BS) and Brigham Young University (MS), is joining the lab as Ph.D. student and will be co-advised by Dr. Watters and Dr. Marschall.
    
• Congratulations, and thanks, to Amy Kulesza, Jonathon Sieber-Denlinger, and Jason Van Tassell. They completed the 50 km Tour de Cure bike race and raised more than $3,500 for the American Diabetes Association.  
  
• Several AEL staff and students attended the annual meeting of the International Association of Great Lakes Research in Chicago. The AEL was well represented with three oral presentations and at the awards ceremony.
  

Pictured is the new Columbus Zoo & Aquarium Freshwater Mussel Facility. Dr. Tom Watters is the curator of OSU's Division of Molluscs and an Adjunct Assisstant Professor in EEOB.	Inside the Mussel Facility, many tanks and aquaria for holding mussels, rearing juveniles, and for maintaining host-fish species.
