• AFS Meeting:
  • August saw the 133rd annual American Fisheries Society meeting in Quebec City. The AEL had many attendies as well as a number paper presentations, including:
    
    Geoff Steinhart presented:
    Steinhart, G.B., Sandrene, M.E., Stein, R.A., and E.A. Marschall presented "An introduced nest predator increases smallmouth bass parental care costs" at the 133rd Annual Meeting of the American Fisheries Society, Quebec City, Quebec on August 12th, 2003.
    
    Jason J. Van Tassell and Sture Hansson presented:
    "A test of a bioenergetics model for young-of-year herring by incorporating its functional response and ambient prey density to predict growth" at the 133rd Annual Meeting of the American Fisheries Society in Quebec City, Canada on August 14, 2003.

• Departing faces:
  • Keith Flaute spent the summer as a research aid working on the percid predation project, he will continue to work on the project as his schedule allows.
