Entomology Major (B.S.)

The entomology major provides a structured program that combines important areas of modern biological sciences with an in-depth concentration of study in entomology.

Part A. Required Prerequisites or Supplements to the Major (Do not count toward the 45 hour major)

  • Biology 113 (H115), 114 (H115)
  • Mathematics 158, 150, 151, 152
  • Chemistry 121, 122, 123
  • Chemistry 251, 252; 245 and 246; or 254 and 255
  • Physics 111 (131), 112 (132), 113 (133)

Part B. Core Requirements (Substitutions are rarely permitted)

  • Entomology 460 or 462, 500
  • EEOB 413.01, 413.02
  • Molecular Genetics 500
  • Microbiology 509 or 520

Part C. Electives within the Major

  • Entomology courses (consult the list below and your faculty advisor)
    • Entomology H444, 461, 531, 612, 621, 623, 631, 641, 642, 650, 660, 661, 662, 664, 795
  • Biological Sciences courses (consult the list below and your faculty advisor)
    • EEOB 400; Biochemistry 511, Plant Pathology 401
  • Independent study is strongly recommended (693 or H783), with up to five credit hours counting towards the 45 hour major

TOTAL:  45 OR MORE HOURS AT THE 200 LEVEL OR ABOVE (PARTS B and C)
A minimum grade of "C-" is required in each course in the major (parts B and C)
COURSES IN THE MAJOR MUST BE APPROVED BY YOUR ADVISOR
