Entomology Career Opportunities
As entomology majors within the Colleges of the Arts and Sciences, students are well prepared for entry-level positions in entomology as well as in other fields in the biological sciences. A student with a BS degree and a major in entomology would be qualified for a position as a research assistant, technician, or staff member in a research laboratory or private company dealing with entomological or biological research or sales and service of biological equipment and supplies. In addition, courses in entomology coupled with real-life experiences in the laboratory, field, museum, and the "real world" qualify students for specialized positions in industry and public service. Students with a BS degree in entomology often assume positions in agricultural, institutional, and urban pest management and in governmental agencies that deal with pests and pesticides.
A major in entomology provides an excellent background in the biological sciences for a student desiring to pursue a professional degree in education, medicine, or veterinary medicine. The major also provides a solid background in the biological sciences for a student hoping to pursue an MS or PhD degree in entomology or the biological sciences.
