Application of enrolled students for an Excellence in Plant
Molecular Biology/Biotechnology Graduate Fellowship
Requirements. Applicants must be working towards
a Ph.D. in a PMBB lab and have a graduate GPA of at least 3.5.
Application. Application packets should consist
of three elements. 1) A cover letter (not to
exceed 1 page) briefly stating why the applicant is interested
in the Excellence in PMBB Graduate Fellowship. 2) A
description (not to exceed 5 double spaced pages, including figures
but not including references) of the applicant’s dissertation
project, progress on the project, and plans for completing the Ph.D. 3) The
applicant’s C.V. (not to exceed 2 pages), including
graduate courses and grades and indicating if the ACE has been passed.
These items should be submitted in electronic form (as a single
pdf) by July 15th, 2007 to Diane Furtney (012 Rightmire - 1060

Judging. Applications will be scored on the strength
of the cover letter and research plan as well as elements of the
applicant’s CV, including GPA, passing the ACE, publications,
presentations, and awards. A subset of applicants will be invited
to participate in a second phase of the competition during which
they will present the Ph.D. project before a judging panel.
The committee will do their best to decide on awardees by the middle
of August.
Award. The Excellence in PMBB Graduate
Fellowship is a one year award that includes health insurance, tuition
and fees, a stipend of $23,000/year, and a $2,000/year allowance expected
to be utilized for books, journal subscriptions, computers, or professional
travel. Awards will begin at the start of fall quarter 2007.
