Excellence in Plant Molecular Biology/Biotechnology
Graduate Fellowships
Excellence Fellowships.Several
prestigious multi-year awards (up to four years) for exceptional students
seeking a Ph.D. at The Ohio State University in the laboratory of a PMBB
member are currently available. Multi-year awards must be renewed
yearly and continuation will be based on merit. While the fellowships
are primarily intended for new students, exceptional students currently
pursuing a Ph.D. in a PMBB lab are invited to apply. Current students

Fellowship benefits.The
Excellence in Plant Molecular Biology/Biotechnology Graduate Fellowships
are associated with a generous stipend of $25,000/year1. Awards include health insurance,
tuition and fees. Fellows will not be required to perform any teaching
activities during the duration of the fellowship.
How to apply. Applicants should meet
at least two of the following three criteria:
- A GPA of 3.6 (out of 4) or equivalent
- A 75th percentile average on the GRE general exam’s Verbal
and Quantitative components and a 4.0 on the Analytical Writing component.
- Research experience.
In addition, international applicants whose native language is not
English should have a TOEFL score of 240 or higher (equivalent to 587
in previous scale).
To be considered for The Excellence in Plant Molecular Biology/Biotechnology
Graduate Fellowships, prospective students must
first apply to a participating
OSU Department/Program (PCMB, HCS, PP, MCDB,
or OSBP). While
the application to The Excellence in Plant Molecular Biology/Biotechnology
Graduate Fellowships can be submitted before acceptance by a program,
the fellowships will only be made effective once the student has been
accepted to one of the participating Ph.D. programs.

1 This includes a $2,000/year allowance expected to be utilized for
books, journal subscriptions, computers, or professional travel. The
$25,000/year stipend is in addition to tuition and fees, which are
paid by the program. If included, then the total benefits of this fellowship
exceed $40,000/year.
