Good friend to the College of Biological Sciences and former microbiology department faculty member, Dr. Rod Sharp, received the 2007 Distinguished Service Award during Commencement ceremonies December 9. Sharp was honored for his long record of exemplary service, dynamic leadership, and unwavering commitment to the University. He is an enthusiastic and active member of the Arts & Sciences Advisory Committee and the Jennings Hall Renovation Leadership Committee. Sharp, who funded the endowment of the Rod Sharp Professorship in Microbiology, has maintained a strong connection with his former department and the College of Biological Sciences. His continuing interest in the quality of undergraduate education and passion for facilitating undergraduate research experiences is a real boon for our students. Additionally, his leadership was pivotal in forming a collaboration involving Ohio State University, the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Rutgers University, an initiative that has far-reaching, meaningful benefits for these institutions, their faculty and students.
