Denlinger Named Distinguished University Professor

David L. Denlinger

David L. Denlinger, Entomology, has been awarded Ohio State's highest faculty honor, designation as a Distinguished University Professor. This is a lifetime honor and is given to only a handful of faculty members who meet rigorous standards of exceptional excellence. No more than three faculty may be given the title each year. Counting Denlinger, who was this year's only recipient, only 33 professors have received the title since it was first awarded in 1987.

Executive Vice President and Provost Barbara Snyder granted Denlinger the title at the university's Board of Trustees meeting June 7. Denlinger received a special commemorative medal and an annual budget of $10,000 for three years to support his academic work.

Denlinger automatically becomes a member of the President's and Provost's Advisory Council.

Denlinger is internationally recognized for his discoveries, which have had significant impact on agriculture, the environment and human health. In 2004, Denlinger was elected to the National Academy of Sciences, the highest honor for a U.S. scientist.
