The following are a few of the development highlights of the past year:
The Campus Campaign -This annual solicitation of faculty and staff garnered the College of Biological Sciences more than $25,000 during the six-month campaign period. Also, during this time, Biological Sciences' students raised nearly $1,800 for the annual Class Gift.
"Affirm Thy Friendship"- The University's major fund-raising campaign ended in September, exceeding the $1 billion goal by nearly $3 million. The College of Biological Sciences also surpassed its goal of $5 million.
Winter College -This annual event is January 26, & 27, 2001 at the Hilton Naples & Towers. The $175.00 fee covers the cost of food and supplies. This year, Ohio State speakers will discuss Planned Giving, Heart Surgery, the Civil War, Veterinary Medicine, the Library, and Agriculture. For more information, please contact me at 614-292-4008.
Book Signing -Emeritus Professor Ronald L. Stuckey hosted a book-signing November 6, 2000, in the Herbarium at the Museum of Biological Diversity to celebrate his most recent publication, Emanuel D. Rudolph's Studies in the History of North American Botany. Sponsors of the event included the College of Biological Sciences Development Office and Friends of the OSU Libraries.
Emeritus Gathering-Biological Sciences' emeritus faculty met June 1, 2000. Attending were: Mary Ellen Clay, Entomology; Daniel J. Crawford, EEOB; Michael L. Evans, Plant Biology; Gary L. Floyd, Plant Biology; Abbot S. Gaunt, EEOB; Theodore Myers, EEOB; Ron Stuckey, Plant Biology; and Barry Valentine, EEOB. Dean Goodridge presented an overview of current and future College initiatives.

supports scholarships and fellowships in the Department of Entomology.
- Dwight Delong Memorial In Entomology
funds student attendance at entomology professional meetings and other student-oriented initiatives promoting excellence in teaching and research.
- Robert H. Edgerley Environmental Toxicology Fund
provides stipends, supplies, equipment, or travel expenses to assist grad student environmental toxicology thesis/dissertation research.
- Excellence In Biochemistry Fund
supports teaching/research excellence in Biochemistry Dept.
- Excellence In Botany Fund
promotes teaching/research excellence in Plant Biology Dept.
- Excellence In Zoology Fund
supports teaching/research excellence in EEOB (formerly Zoology).
- Scott Falkenthal Memorial Student Colloquium Fund
supports Department of Molecular Genetics annual Graduate Student Colloquium.
- Herta Camerer Gross Research Fellowship Award
supports doctoral/postdoctoral students, with preference to plant genetics students showing outstanding research potential.
- Hoogstraal Memorial Acarology Scholarship Fund
supports Acarology Summer Program students in good academic standing.
- Ichthyology Research Endowment Fund
aids research/publication on Museum fish collection.
- Kathleen E. Kendrick Scholarship Fund
supports minority students majoring in microbiology.
- Charles And Anita King Endowment Fund
aids programs of the Ohio Biological Survey.
- D.j. And J. N. Knull Fund In Entomology
funds entomology systematics research/curating.
- Helen M. And Milton O. Lee Fellowships Fund
provides Woods Hole Marine Biological Laboratory fellowships.
- Elizabeth M. Mote Memorial Award In Microbiology
provides awards for outstanding microbiology graduate teaching associates.
- Ohio Eminent Scholar In Industrial Microbiology
provides salary/program support for an outstanding scholar/leader in industrial microbiology.
- Ohio Eminent Scholar In Molecular Genetics
provides salary/program support for an outstanding scholar/leader in molecular genetics.
- Ohio Eminent Scholar In Protein Engineering
provides salary/program support for an outstanding scholar/leader in protein engineering.
- Ohio Pest Control Association Scholarship Fund
provides merit scholarships/fellowships in urban entomology, preference to Association members, their spouses or children. (being revised)
- Chester I. Randles Graduate Studies Scholarship Fund In Microbiology
supports graduates in final year of department's doctoral program.
- Walter C. Rothenbuhler Travel Scholarship
helps students engaged in honeybee research, regardless of department affiliation, to attend scientific meetings.
- Emanuel D. Rudolph Botanical Fund
funds support a variety of Herbarium activities; preservation/continuation of Rudolph Memorial Library.
- Glenn O. and Lois S. Schwahb Scholarship Fund
(shared equally with FAES) scholarships for EEOB juniors/seniors with highest GPA (min. of 3.3) and one or more advanced zoology courses.
- Rod Sharp Professorship In Microbiology
provides salary/program support for outstanding researcher/teacher in microbial diversity with work relevant to industry, the environment or medicine.
- David H. Stansbery Bivalves Endowment Fund
aids enrichment/maintenance of Zoology Museum's Bivalve Mollusk Collection, including expeditions, purchase of collections, and related expenses
- Loren F. Steiner Entomology Memorial Fund
provides undergrad scholarships/ grad fellowships to students demonstrating academic ability, need and interest in economic entomology.
- Ronald L. Stuckey Herbarium Fund
supports purposes associated with the Herbarium.
- Theodore Suie, Jr. Scholarship Fund
provides scholarships or fellowships to biological sciences' majors who have need and show scholastic achievement. Preference is given to orphans.
- John D. And Marguerite M. Sullivan Scholarship Fund
provides student scholarships.
