Directory of Services

We provide many services at the college level, while OIT provides many other services at the university level. Here are some commonly requested services and how to get them. If the service that you're looking for isn't listed, please contact us.

Computer support

We can help with choosing, setting up, maintaining and repairing computers.

Networking

Computing Services provides network access through our wired network. Please let us know before you connect any device to our network for the first time.

Email

Although we install and configure email clients, OIT provides email service itself. OIT's systems status page reports transient problems with email and other systems.

Web server

Computing Services provides a web server with accounts available for departments, units and faculty.

BPL computer lab

The Biological Sciences/Pharmacy Library houses a TELR-supported computer lab with 16 Windows XP systems. We can coordinate scheduling the lab for classes and installing desired applications.

ibuy web site

The university's ibuy web site is the purchasing gateway for a variety of products and services. For example, to find links for computer purchases from Dell, HP, IBM/Lenovo and Apple, select Computer Hardware and Peripherals under the Contract Book section.

Prime Supplier Agreements

The university has negotiated Prime Supplier Agreements with Dell, HP, and IBM/Lenovo. This gives us attractive pricing and service on desktop and laptop systems from these vendors. Two standard desktop and three standard laptop configurations from each vendor fulfill the needs of the vast majority of our users at great prices. Quotes for the standard configurations are available from the ibuy pages (see above). We encourage you to buy Windows computers from the Prime Supplier Agreements.

Microsoft Campus Agreement

The university began a three-year agreement with Microsoft in July, 2007, which includes Microsoft Office (for both Windows and Mac) for all university-owned computers, as well as upgrades to licensed versions of Windows. Your department should have the distribution media. Full information on the Microsoft Campus Agreement is available as part of OIT's Site Licensed Software web site.

Site-licensed software

In addition to Microsoft Office and Windows, many other software packages are available at no or minimal cost. More information is available on OIT's main Site Licensed Software page.

Other software purchases

Adobe products (such as Acrobat, Dreamweaver and Photoshop) are available at special prices from Software House International (SHI). See SHI's page on the ibuy site for ordering information.

We can also get Microsoft products that aren't part of the Microsoft Campus Agreement (such as Windows Server) from SHI.

Media disposal

It is vital that no computer media (such as hard drives, thumbdrives, CDs, DVDs, floppy disks or Zip disks) be discarded, sent to Surplus or otherwise allowed out of our control without first having their data thoroughly destroyed. Simply reformatting is not sufficient to destroy data. Functioning hard drives are most conveniently addressed with DBAN; many other forms of media can be shredded with inexpensive office shredders. These things are well within the capabilities of most of our users, but we'd rather do this for you than suffer the consequences of a release of restricted data. Please do not discard (whether giving away, sending to surplus, or just throwing away) any computer media unless all data have been thoroughly destroyed.
