From the President
Biological Sciences Alumni:
Let me take the time to introduce myself. My name is Joseph Spohn, I am a 1995 graduate of the College of Biological Sciences in Entomology and I am proud to serve as the president of the award winning College of Biological Sciences Alumni Society. Our fairly young Alumni Society was chartered in late 1999. Since then we have remained a highly active group, participating in numerous programs each year in support of the college and the university we love.
Our efforts as an organized Alumni Society have remained focused on the most valuable part of this university--its students. We strive to play a role in their success from before they enroll to long after they leave Ohio State. We were the first alumni group to partner with the Admissions Office to recruit top-notch undergraduate students to biological sciences through our ongoing Calling Night program. Each June we host a reception to congratulate the most recent class of graduates and their families. In addition, we organize an annual golf outing fundraiser to support the Biological Sciences Alumni Scholarship, the first of which was awarded to a student in 2005 as a result of the tremendous efforts of our alumni and friends of the college. As students prepare to graduate, they are invited to “Career Day” to interact with a panel of alumni who give them an inside look at career options for those with a degree in biological sciences.
In addition to student-focused programs, our Alumni Society organizes a variety of fellowship events for alumni such as Alumni Reunion Weekend, tailgate parties for Buckeye football games, and the Buckeye Island Hop community service retreat to Stone Laboratory at Lake Erie.
