Below are some examples of the annual activities of your alumni society.
Activities
"Metamorphosis" Luncheon for graduating seniors
Graduates and their families are invited for a complimentary luncheon before commencement rehearsal each June. The luncheon is a celebration of their "metamorphosis," or their transition from students to alumni of the College of Biological Sciences. Alumni Society members and faculty are on hand to welcome them as the newest members of the College of Biological Sciences Alumni Society. The 2008 "Metamorphosis" will be held on Friday, June 6. Check the calendar of events for updates.
Student Recruitment Calling Nights (more)
Twice each year, Alumni Society members participate in Calling Nights to recruit top high school
seniors who have applied to Ohio State and have indicated an
interest in Biological Sciences. Alumni volunteers share experiences
and answer questions about the university, our college and what it is like to be a Buckeye.
Student Mentoring (more)
Society members can volunteer to help students who are attending
Ohio State by answering questions about choosing an area of study,
seeking undergraduate research opportunities, deciding a career
path, and many others.
Social Activities
Each year, the society plans a number of social events for alumni
and friends. The Biological Sciences Golf Outing, Arts and Sciences Alumni Tailgate Party, and Alumni Society General Meeting and Ohio State basketball game are some examples. See Calendar
of Events for details and photos.
Community Service
For the past six years, members of the Biological Sciences Alumni Society have participated in a community clean-up project at OSU's Stone Laboratory at Lake Erie. "Buckeye Island Hop" brings together several Ohio State alumni groups for service projects in the Lake Erie area.
New in 2008, alumni volunteers are planning a Spring Cleaning event at the newly renovated Jennings Hall on campus. They will work with the Biological Sciences Greenhouse staff to put the finishing touches on the courtyard by planting and weeding. Spring Cleaning is scheduled for April 26 at 10 a.m.
