The Protein Research Group at The Ohio State University was organized in 2001 to foster collaborative research and scholarly activities among several faculty and their research groups.
The Ohio State University is a large comprehensive research university. As a result, scientists engaged in broadly related research activities on the structure and function of proteins are distributed around the campus in various academic departments. Although members of this group have often interacted informally through individual collaborations, seminars, interdepartmental graduate programs, etc., it was felt that a more formal arrangement would assist in the development of these research programs at this university.
The Protein Research Group also provides a mechanism by which to collectively promote the considerable activities, expertise, and research contributions of its members to the international scientific community. A visitor to one of the departmental websites often does not obtain the complete picture as to the extent of considerable protein-related research that is being conducted at The Ohio State University. It is hoped that through activities such as this website, retreats, and the acknowledgement of The PRG on research publications, people will gain a greater appreciation of the strength of our research programs and the many opportunities for study, training, and careers in this exciting area at The Ohio State University. |
