The Quarantine Facility housed
within the Biological Sciences Greenhouse Facility supports regional
research and release of imported natural enemies for biological
control of pest species and certain plants. Before release, the
natural enemies are screened for their own naturally occurring
parasites and diseases. Identification and verification of the
proper agents are required prior to release, to assure that the
control agent is specific to the desired target organism. This
is the only quarantine facility of its kind in the North Central
states.
