P.E.O. is a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement of women; educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans, and stewardship of Cottey College; and motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations.
Shanen Sherrer won 2008 Robert H. Edgerley Environmental Toxicology Summer Fellowship.
Jess Brown won the American Heart Association Pre-Doctoral Fellowship for the years of 2008-2009 and 2009-2010.

OUR GRADUATES - WHAT THEY ARE DOING NOW
Drs.
Thomas Conrads and Brian Hood, former graduate students
of the OSBP who both earned their Ph.D.s under the
direction of Dr. Russ Hille, recently established a new
laboratory housed in the Hillman Cancer Center at the University
of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI). Dr. Conrads joined
the Faculty of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine
as Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology
and Co-Director of the Clinical Proteomics Facility in the
UPCI. Dr. Brian Hood, after working with Dr. Conrads when
he was director of the mass spectrometry laboratory at the
National Cancer Institute, was recruited as a Senior Research
Scientist to assist with the initiation and implementation
of their efforts in clinical proteomics.

Ohio State now has the most faculty chosen as "fellows" of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
This information is from the announcement in the latest issue of the journal of Science. 15 OSU Faculty members were appointed to the AAAS as fellows. Two Ohio State Biochemistry Program professors were honored:
Dr. Kathleen Boris-Lawrie, member of Veterinary Biosciences and Molecular Virology,Immunology and Medical Genetics (MVIMG) for her contributions to the field of molecular virology.
Dr. Lee Johonson (Emeritus Professor), former Chairman of Molecular Genetics for his contributions to the field of Molecular Genetics. Next on the list of fellows was University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign with 11 fellows. Others included Yale, with 10 fellows, and Harvard with 9. |

OSBP faculty member from the Chemistry Dept. - won the Ohio State
University Distinguished Scholar Award. Dr. Cowan's research focus
is understanding the biological chemistry of metal ions. more

Dr. Joseph Krzycki Elected American Academy of |

Microbiology Fellow - |
| |
|
OSU professor of microbiology Joseph Krzycki has been elected a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, an honorific leadership society within the American Society of Microbiology. Five years ago, Krzycki, along with OSU biochemistry professor Michael Chan, led two research teams that identified the 22nd genetically encoded amino acid, pyrrolysine. With Krzycki's induction, Ohio State now has 10 fellows in the AAM. |
