Elliptio nasutilus (Lea, 1863)
Type locality: Livingston's Creek, Brunswick Co., North Carolina. Range: Waccamaw and Little Pee Dee River systems, and adjacent counties on the Cape Fear peninsula. Remarks: This is a very distinct but localized species -- not surprising given the number of endemic mussels from this area already recognized. The peculiar coloration, anterior umbos, white nacre, and bowed aspect are unique. Lea's type specimen is a juvenile. Lea changed the name to Unio nasutulus (unnecessarily) in 1866.
