Admission Criteria for the Graduate Program
Fundamental Training, Minimum Requirements:
- 10 quarter hours of Physics
- 15 quarter hours of Mathematics
- 18 quarter hours of Chemistry
- 1 course in Biochemistry
Academic Criteria for Admission Consideration:
- Earned baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college or university prior to beginning graduate studies
- Earned cumulative grade-point average (GPA) equivalent to at least 3.0 out of 4.0 (or B) in all previous undergraduate college-level course work, or 3.3 in all graduate course work
Fellowship Consideration:
- To be considered for fellowship awards, applicant must have a GPA of >3.6 & submit all application materials before January 15.
- >75% for GRE General Test
Test Requirements:
Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
- GRE General Test
- >60th percentile scores for high-priority consideration
- GRE Subject Test
- "B24" Biology, or
- "B22" Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (Internationalapplicants only)
- Minimum score: 600 (Paper-based test) or 250 (Computer-based test)

- Department Code: 06 (Genetics)
- Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) test score may be used in place of TOEFL score.
